THINK THROUGH YOUR CHURCH YEAR

A comfortable Sunday setup, with a plan for the fuller days.

Your usual service may need fewer chairs than a winter gathering, Christmas service or special weekend. Use your own attendance records to describe both arrangements. The difference helps explain how many chairs stay in use and how many need a place between events.

In its August 2022 newsletter, the Florida Conference’s Gulf Central District discussed returning winter visitors and seasonal studies and fellowship. That regional example is a useful prompt to look at your church’s calendar; it does not tell you how many chairs your congregation needs. Read the district’s seasonal planning note ↗

For a room moving from pews to individual chairs, include the look you want to preserve, any seats with arms and the arrangements you hope to use. Your furniture request can include a coordinated main set and extra chairs brought out for busier services.

MAKE A SEATING BRIEF

What stays out?
What comes out later?

Enter the chair counts for two setups in the same room. We use the larger count for that room’s furniture brief, and show the difference as extra chairs beyond the regular setup.

Planning example: 120 regular seats and 180 at the busiest gathering means a 180-chair set, with 60 beyond the regular setup. This does not calculate room capacity or a final purchase quantity.

Enter either setup to begin.

Add both counts to see the chairs beyond your regular setup.

These details are included in the quote form below. For rooms used at the same time, give each additional room its own quantity in the quote notes.

START WITH THE CHAIR

Warm oak. Soft color.
A back that fits your worship.

A rear rack can keep hymnals within reach of the row behind. A clean back suits a room where books are stored elsewhere. These paired concepts use the same wood frame and upholstery so you can compare that choice directly.

WITH REAR BOOK STORAGE

A home for the hymnals.

Include the books your congregation uses and any other rack contents. If chairs move between worship and meals, describe both uses when discussing the frame and rack.

WITHOUT A REAR RACK

A simple, open back.

Keep the same upholstered wood design without rear book storage. A mixed order can use racks in the sanctuary and clean backs elsewhere; include each quantity in your notes.

AFTER THE SERVICE, AROUND THE TABLE

Choose the fellowship furniture as a set.

A chair that spends part of its week at a dining table has another job to do. Bring the table size and height into the chair conversation, along with upholstery preferences, arms and how the room is cleaned after meals.

Meals, celebrations and an easy welcome.

Faith Presbyterian Church in Gainesville describes Grace Commons as a place for after-worship fellowship, celebrations and community gatherings, with a hall and warming kitchen. Its mix of uses illustrates why a furniture brief should include dining and gathering arrangements as well as worship rows. See the church’s description of Grace Commons ↗

For your hall, tell us whether tables remain in place or are moved for other activities. Include any carts, linking, stacking or handling features you would like the proposed design to provide.

A DIFFERENT KIND OF GATHERING

Leave space for the conversation.

Studies, new-member gatherings and fellowship groups may work best with chairs facing one another. Describe those arrangements too, particularly if the same chairs move out of sanctuary rows.

The church room and the storage room both matter. Record the doors, thresholds and turns along the actual route. If another building or a covered outdoor route is involved, include that detail so handling and storage can be discussed.

THE DETAILS YOU LIVE WITH

Color, comfort and the way the room is cared for.

Light oak and muted greens are one starting point. Share the trim, platform furniture and flooring the new chairs will sit beside, along with the colors your church prefers. An existing pulpit or communion table can help explain the wood tone you have in mind.

Talk through seat dimensions, back shape and any chairs with arms you would like included. If the same furniture serves long services and meals, include both uses so the design discussion covers comfort at a table as well as in a row.

Describe the actual indoor room and where chairs are stored between events. Discuss upholstery cleaning and finish care for those spaces. An indoor upholstered chair pictured here is not an outdoor-use specification; include outdoor services separately if they are part of your request.

HAVE THE ROOM READY TO RECEIVE IT

Work back from the first gathering.

Share the date you would like the furniture in use, then discuss production, freight, receiving and room preparation together. The quote can cover chair options, tables and the delivery or setup services your project needs.

Before arrival

Coordinate pew or old-chair removal, floor work and a clear receiving area. Leave time to unpack and arrange furniture before the congregation arrives.

At the property

Provide the Florida delivery ZIP, receiving entrance and any gate or unloading window. Name a primary contact and a backup who can help coordinate access.

If conditions change

Use FL511 traffic information and the county emergency-management directory when reconfirming local access. Keep changes coordinated with the carrier; those resources do not confirm a truck’s access to your property.

A FEW USEFUL STARTING POINTS

Still deciding?
That is a good time to talk.

Do all the extra chairs need to match the regular set?

You can request a matching set or describe a different chair for occasional use. Include how often the extra chairs come out and where they will wait. Matching fabric, wood tone or frame color can connect different chair designs.

Does the seating brief tell us how many chairs fit?

No. It records two quantities you provide and separates the regular setup from additional chairs. Room dimensions, circulation and the permitted layout must be resolved separately. Include an existing plan or your room notes in the furniture conversation.

What if our attendance stays steady all year?

Enter the same count for both setups, or give an approximate quantity in the quote form. You can still use the page to compare chairs, racks, finishes and fellowship furniture.

Can we request tables and chairs for several rooms?

Yes. Add the other rooms and their quantities to the quote notes, including any different rack or finish choice. The seasonal seating brief describes one room; rooms used together need their own furniture quantities.
